TWO wheels good, four wheels bad. This was the message yesterday as National Bike Week 2011, which runs until June 26, was launched in Dublin.
And Michael Killan, seen here with his sideways bike invention, was there to mark the occasion.
And to show that two wheels really are good, 420 cyclists in Cork, including Irish legend Sean Kelly, yesterday set out on a 130-mile fundraising ride.
Among the large crowd outside Cork City Hall were visiting children from Belarus who cheered on the cyclists, pictured above, as they departed for Galway on the ninth Annual Pfzier Chernobyl Cycle.
Whole families are among the participants on the two-day trek, which will arrive in Galway this evening.
"There'll be a few that want to sprint with me during the cycle, so I'll be ready for that," ex-world number one Kelly joked. The annual cycle has raised more than €700,000 to date and it is hoped this weekend's event will raise in excess of €200,000 for projects in Chernobyl.
