'On spot' tests for recalled Zafiras

OPEL mechanics will carry out inspections of fire-risk Zafiras 'on the spot' when owners bring them to their dealership as part of an 8,000-vehicle recall.
Owners are being asked to take Zafira B cars that have either manual or no air conditioning to their garage for a free inspection of heating and ventilation systems.
There will be no charge where parts need to be replaced.
An Opel Ireland spokeswoman said that in cases where work needs to be carried out it will be possible for temporary alternative transport to be provided.
"Where a person is without transport, their mobility will be looked after," she told the Irish Independent.
"The priority is to get the cars in and have them checked out. Any part that needs replacement will be replaced."
The cars that are affected range from 2005 to 2014. Those with climate control are not involved.
So far, there have been reports that eight cars, out of 8,000 on the road, have had problems with their heating and ventilation systems.
Concerned owners can also call Opel Customer Assistance on 01 533 9818.
In the UK, 220,000 Vauxhall B Zafiras are being recalled.
The problem with Zafiras was highlighted recently when dramatic online footage showed a car in Cork suddenly bursting into flames.
And the Irish Independent revealed earlier this week how a mother of five and her family had a lucky escape when their Zafira went on fire shortly after she and her four young passengers had fled the smoke-filled car.
