Olympic torch on a special trip

SPECIAL Olympians Paul Kenny and Robert Fahy joined members of the gardai yesterday to carry the Special Olympic torch into the Ballyraine complex at Sunbeam House in Arklow.

The torch is on a cross-country tour of Ireland that began in Kilkenny yesterday and will end in Limerick as part of the opening ceremonies for the All-Ireland Special Olympic Games at Thomond Park on June 9.

The Cranberries will perform at the ceremony along with pop group The Heathers as part of the festivities.

The games will be the one of the biggest sporting events in Ireland this year featuring some 1,900 special athletes and 5,000 friends and family members.
