IT was his first public outing since his arrest a few weeks ago for questioning over his mobile-phone expenses claims.

And former Fianna Fail TD and junior Agriculture Minister Ned O'Keeffe was making the most of his day out at the racing festival in Killarney, Co Kerry.

He stopped briefly to chat with another racing stalwart, former Justice Minister and Ceann Comhairle John O'Donoghue, who was at the races with his wife Kate Ann.

Mr O'Keeffe appeared very relaxed and to be enjoying the event as he smiled and chatted away with fellow punters.

He spent most of the day in the open betting area rather than inside in the hospitality suites.
