Officers trawl evidence in hunt for garda killer
GARDAI say they are prepared for a "long haul" in tracking down the killers of former fraud squad detective John Kerins.
Officers have interviewed dozens of associates and neighbours of the victim as they build up a picture of his movements during the days leading up to his murder a week ago.
They say their investigation has since opened up a large number of inquiries to be pursued but, so far, none has resulted in a breakthrough. Mr Kerins' house, where he was shot dead, at Cornaveagh, Bailieboro, Co Cavan, has been handed over by gardai to his estranged wife following the completion of forensic tests by members of the garda technical bureau and the seizure of documentation by local officers.
The results of the forensic examination have not yet been forwarded to the investigation team at Bailieboro station and gardai are continuing to identify people and vehicles who appeared on CCTV footage.
