GARDAI will take to the icy waters of Lough Derg to help raise €10,000 for Special Olympics Munster.
The organisers of the Polar Plunge want 100 volunteers to join gardai and other emergency response personnel in leaping into the lake at the University of Limerick Adventure Centre in Killaloe, Co Clare, on November 17.
Special Olympics Ireland hopes local heroes, celebs, politicians and business people will take the plunge and pledge €100 each.
Launching the fundraising event were officers Hilda Maloney (left), Deirdre Brown, Aidan Sweeney, Aine Troy and Collette Acton.
It is the second time volunteers have made a splash for cash – gardai from Waterford braved the plunge pool last year.
