'Off the Ball' team hanging up rakes for return to radio

THE 'Off the Ball' team are preparing to hang up their garden rakes and return to the studio "very soon".

However, Eoin McDevitt, Ken Early, Ciaran Murphy, Simon Hick and Mark Horgan – who yesterday posted a photograph of themselves on "garden leave" – were tight-lipped about which station they will be broadcasting with.

The team resigned en masse from Newstalk last week after station management refused to change the start time of their sports show.

However, the team took to Twitter yesterday to reveal they are about to make an imminent return to the airwaves.

"Hey everyone, we just want to say we've been blown away by the support listeners in Ireland and abroad have given us over the past week," they said. "Thank you all so, so much. Good news: we'll be back on air very soon. Bad news: we can't say where just yet."

A spokeswoman for Newstalk last night refused to confirm or deny that the team would be returning to the station.

A contract clause means McDevitt must adhere to a 12-week notice period before being able to join a rival station while Early, Hick, Murphy and Horgan have to work a four-week notice period.
