O'Donovan carves out a new future after win

Barry Duggan

IT was as if all his Christmases had come at once.

Like thousands across the country, Fine Gael's Patrick O'Donovan (33) didn't even have a full-time job before the weekend.

However, this morning he wakes up with a new job -- that of a TD -- after winning a seat in the new Limerick constituency in his very first general election contest.

And yesterday, Patrick's parents, Nellie and John (left), toasted his success with a late, but special, turkey dinner at home.

"My dad, John, was very sick in hospital at Christmas so we made a decision then that we would have the turkey some other day. We're having it today," Mr O'Donovan said.
