Obama can enjoy his pint if he returns to Moneygall
BANNING visiting dignitaries, such as US President Barack Obama, from being photographed with a pint is a step too far, according to Health Minister Leo Varadkar.
He was tackled on the “mixed messages” these famous photographs give at the time when we are trying to tackle our overindulgence in booze. Oireachtas health committee chairman Jerry Buttimer TD said even Queen Elizabeth ended up in the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin during her 2011 visit and the photo of Obama with a pint in Moneygall was “iconic”.
However, Mr Varadkar said putting a stop to this tradition would smack of the nanny state. The problem is not Obama’s pint but rather the excessive drinking of pints of Guinness, he insisted.
