AN IRISH Loreto nun based in Mauritius, who has spoken about how she travelled to Co Tyrone to visit Michaela McAreavey's grave, had a tearful meeting with her father, GAA boss Micky Harte.

Sr Miriam Boyle, who comforted Michaela's husband John in the days after her death, has been in contact with him and his family since they arrived on the island for the trial of the two men accused of her murder.

Sr Miriam (74) and some of her fellow Loreto nuns travelled to Legends Hotel in Grand Gaube after they heard about Michaela's murder in January 2011. She said that she found John inconsolable. "We sat with him. He was broken, completely broken."

That summer, Sr Miriam was back in Ireland visiting a Loreto convent in Coleraine when she decided to pay her respects at Michaela's grave in Ballygawley, meeting the tragic bride's father in the process.

"There was very little conversation as such and he said his wife was trying to cope with it as well," she said.

She said that Michaela's father was "very emotional" adding "there were tears".
