Now GSOC gets legal advice

The 'bugging' scandal took another extraordinary twist last night as the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) revealed it has taken legal advice in its bid to establish who leaked details of the electronic sweep of its headquarters.

In an effort to calm the tensions between the agency and the Government, GSOC has sent a detailed response to the Department of Justice after Minister Alan Shatter demanded it clarify "contradictions" in previous statements about whether its offices were bugged.

Mr Shatter has finally received the report of the investigation carried out into the possibility the gardai were behind the suspected bugging.
