Now Callinan could face a grilling in investigation into college
Martin Callinan and other former Garda commissioners face the prospect of being dragged into the controversy over finances at the Templemore Training College.
Members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) are considering whether commissioners and other former Garda officials should be grilled as part of their probe into financial irregularities in Templemore that may date back decades.
Labour TD Alan Kelly and Fianna Fáil's Marc MacSharry said consideration should be given to requesting previous Garda commissioners to attend the PAC.
Mr MacSharry said the Templemore issue could further undermine the public's confidence in the Garda, and said examining the matter should be the PAC's "top priority".
He said: "We're going to have to go in to some level of depth and that does involve seeking to bring in former commissioners and people that were formerly involved."
Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell said the Comptroller and Auditor General, rather than the PAC, should probe finances at Templemore, .
Chairman Seán Fleming asked TDs for a list of potential witnesses to be sought by the committee so it can be decided on next week.
