Noonan rules out free vote for FG TDs on bill

Finance Minister Michael Noonan has ruled out the Coalition giving a free vote to Fine Gael TDs and senators on the abortion legislation.

Mr Noonan said "very few" party members feel they won't be able to vote for the legislation.

Fine Gael TD Peter Mathews and Senator Fidelma Healy Eames say they will not support the Protection of Life in Pregnancy Bill. And a number of other party members are threatening to vote against the legislation, amid calls for a free vote to be given to Fine Gael TDs.
