Keep your umbrella and raincoats nearby as Met Eireann has said that the summer sunshine won't be returning anytime soon.

This week the weather is unsettled with a mix of heavy rain showers, sunny spells and even hail.

Today could see temperatures as high as 18 degrees, although isolated showers are also expected.

According to Met Eireann, the gloomy weather will continue this weekend.

“We’re expected to see showery conditions similar to today over the next five days,” a Met Éireann forecaster told Independent.ie.

Thursday and Friday will bring periods of bright and sunny weather with “heavy, thundery downpours”.

Met Éireann have also warned of hail showers.

Temperatures are expected to get cooler also as the week continues, with highest temperatures over the weekend only expected to reach the “low to mid-teens”.
