Car lights crackdown
MORE than 1,400 motorists were caught driving with defective lights or using lights inappropriately during a two-day crackdown by gardai last month. As part of 'Operation Light Up', gardai around the country stopped 1,089 motorists and advised them to have their lights fixed or to use them appropriately, for example by turning off fog lights when there was no fog.
However, in 317 cases, gardai issued €60 fixed charge notices to offending drivers. The safety initiative took place on February 20-21.
In the course of a recent article in the Irish Independent titled 'Frontline Alliance falls apart in pay split' reference was made to 'ambulance drivers'.
The Irish Emergency Medical Services Association has contacted us to point out that this term was inaccurately applied to its members whose professions are paramedics, emergency care practitioners and pre-hospital specialists.
We are happy to clarify this matter.
