Nine new chief superintendents are announced

NINE new chief superintendents were announced yesterday by Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy, following a Cabinet decision to allow a series of promotions.

The new list includes Dave Dowling, who has been tackling gangland crime in Blanchardstown, west Dublin, for the past year, and Tom Hayes, who has been in charge of the detective branch in the southern region.

Eugene Corcoran has been heavily involved in the fraud bureau investigation at Anglo Irish Bank, and Padraig Kennedy was head of detectives in Dublin north-central.

Also on the list are Peter Kirwan of the crime and security section at garda headquarters; Anne Marie McMahon of Limerick; Jim Sheridan of Dundalk; Tom Curley of Galway and Pat O'Sullivan of Tralee.
