Young man killed when car left road and struck ditch in early hours

A young man has been killed in a road traffic collision in the early hours of this morning.

The man - believed to be in his late teens or early 20s - was travelling in the car with a second male when the incident occurred.

Their car left the road and struck a ditch at Dromsallagh, Cappamore, Co. Limerick at 4.15am.

The young man was pronounced dead at the scene on the Cappamore to Murroe Road.

It is understood that he was a passenger in the car.

The second man - who is of a similar age - was removed to University Hospital Limerick.

The road remains closed as Garda forensic collision investigators have begun an examination of the crash site.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.
