A Fine Gael TD has received an anonymous letter threatening to shoot him today.
Frank Feighan received the letter to his constituency office in Boyle, Co Roscommon, this morning.
The letter, part of which Mr Feighan tweeted this morning, threatens to shoot the TD and claims to know where he lives. It reads:
"I know the time you leave the house + I see you coming home you will get a bullet before long you gay b*****d [sic]."
In two tweets Mr Feighan condemned those who had sent the letter:
"Some obviously feel cyberbullying, death threats and verbal abuse is acceptable in a civilised society," he said.
"4 years of threats and abuse continue as I leave politics."
The threat comes one week after Senator Lorraine Higgins received an email threatening to shoot her, the writer saying that they "would like “nothing better than to fill a rat’s mouth with lead”.
Mr Feighan last month confirmed that he wasn't going to stand in the upcoming election. The Roscommon/ South Leitrim TD said his standing down was for personal reasons.
Mr Feighan's office confirmed that he has reported the incident to the gardaí and that they are investigating the matter.
