A YOUNG woman was killed instantly after being struck by a lorry near Dublin's Heuston Station.

The woman, whose identity has not been released by gardai, is believed to have been in her late teens or early 20s.

It is understood that she suffered fatal injuries after being hit by the lorry as she crossed the road near the train station at Victoria Quay at around 5pm yesterday. Gardai said she dead upon their arrival.

Her body was taken to the Dublin City Morgue for a post-mortem examination.

Gardai were last night working to establish the woman's identity, a spokesman said.

One eyewitness said: "She was a young girl, a teenager I'd say, and the truck went right over her. The paramedics were on the scene straight away but there was nothing they could do for her."
