Woman critically injured after car crashes into a river

A woman was critically injured tonight when her car skidded on a wet road and landed in a river.

The woman in her 40s was rushed to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny where she was listed in a critical condition.

The accident occurred shortly began 9pm last night in Bagenalstown, Co Carlow, when the woman reportedly lost control of the car she was driving after skidding on a wet road.

The car flipped over on its side before entering the Barrow River in the town, gardai said last night.

There were no passengers in the car and no one else was injured in the accident.
