Woman (30s) questioned in connection with discovery of €14,000 worth of contraband cigarettes

A woman in her 30s has been questioned in connection with the recovery of contraband cigarettes worth over €14,000.

The 27,000 unstamped cigarettes were discovered as part of a search under warrant of an apartment in Swords Co Dublin on Friday.

Branded ‘Marlboro Gold’ and ‘L&M, they have a retail value of more than €14,175, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €11,300.

A Slovakia woman was questioned and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.

The seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
