The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 22-year-old woman has died and three others were taken to Mercy University Hospital in Cork following a house fire in Midleton.

The fire, in a terraced house on the New Cork road, broke out at approximately 3.30am this morning.

Gardai say that the young woman was pronounced dead on the scene.

She has since been named as Stacey Dunlea.

Other family members - her parents Paddy and Chrissie, and her brothers Christy and Pierce and sisters Christine and Louise - received treatment for smoke inhalation and were released from hospital afterwards.

It is understood that following a technical examination, Gardai ruled out foul play.

Locals described the family as quiet and well respected.
