Radio Kerry is reporting that neighbours contacted gardaí after two men called to the home of the elderly man, who is in hie 90s, in Annascaul on the Dingle peninsula on Tuesday.

The men reportedly claimed to be tree surgeons and the elderly man invited one of them into his home at around midday.

However, concerned neighbours called Dingle gardaí.

Officers went to the man’s house and found one of the men with him.

Sergeant Martin Allen told the station that both men were asked to produce evidence that they were tree surgeons but they were unable to show this.

Sergeant Allen explained that no offence occurred but said both men left the house after speaking to gardaí.

The radio station is reporting that last Friday, in two separate incidents, homes in Killarney and Tralee were ransacked by men; one said he was a plumber while the other said he was checking the sewerage system.
