VIDEO: Surprise proposal for couple that met in Dublin Airport - three years to the day
Girlfriend 'thought the cameras were here for Conor McGregor'
A Monaghan woman was surprised this morning when she arrived to pick up her boyfriend from Dublin Airport to find a crowd of cameras and a local school choir singing Christmas carols.
Louise Mooney arrived at Dublin Airport today to collect her partner of three years, Martin Mulroe, who flew in from Australia this morning.
Unbeknownst to Louise, Martin had actually flown in hours beforehand to prepare to pop the question.
Martin enlisted the help of Dublin Airport staff with the surprise, who were waiting in the wings with flowers and balloons.
An excited Louise ran and jumped into Martin's arms and when she let go, he dropped to one knee. To the backdrop of a local school choir, a shocked Louise said yes and a cheer went up from the crowds in the airport.
Speaking to Independent.ie before the big moment, Martin said he was "very nervous".
"I'm trying to calm down, settle my nerves and then I'll get dressed up and ready".
"I'm going to meet and greet her, and pop the question... I'm just going to come out and do it, there and then".
Speaking to Independent.ie, Louise said she was not expecting a proposal when she arrived to the airport. "I thought the cameras were here for Conor McGregor! That's what (my family) told me... I thought we were going to see Conor McGregor!"
"I was very, very surprised!"
Martin told Independent.ie that the couple met in the airport exactly three years to the day. "We met in terminal two, three years ago now - exactly three years ago".
"I was giving him my sister's engagement ring to bring back to Australia", Louise added, "and now I've got another one in the airport!"
The happy couples Christmas plans "are celebrating, now!" Louise laughed.
Louise and Martin had been living in Australia together for the last two years. Louise had returned almost four months ago to begin a college course, and had just sat her final exam this morning before heading to the airport.
