Video: Hundreds brave rain clouds for winter solstice at Newgrange
Hundreds flocked to Newgrange this morning to witness the annual winter solstice - but the lack of sunshine put a bit of a cloud over the event.
Those handpicked from the 30,000 who entered the winter solstice lottery this year arrived before sunrise at 8.38am to witness the event at the 5,000 year old burial chamber.
But our unpredictable weather left hopefuls from the US, Belgium, England and Ireland disappointed when no light could be seen in the tunnel.
In fact, other lottery winners that claimed an elusive visit to Newgrange in the clear sky days leading up to the main event got to experience the sunshine travelling through the chamber.
