Up to 100,000 spectators are expected to travel to Cork for the Irish Open Golf Championship 2014 next week.
The event takes place in Fota Island Golf Resort from June 18 to 22.
Gardaí say they have a comprehensive Traffic Management Plan in place, and details can be found on the Garda website www.garda.ie.
Speaking from Middleton Garda station today Superintendent John Quilter advised spectators to travel to the resort using public transport.
"We welcome all visitors to Cork for the upcoming Irish Open Golf Championship at the Fota Resort Golf Resort from 18th to the 22nd of June.
"Public transport will be the easiest, quickest and most direct way of getting to the Championship."
"Fota has its own train station and we encourage the public to use the public rail network that will bring you directly onto the golf course."
For those travelling by car, gardai request that drivers obey the directions of Gardaí and stewards at all times.
