Two separate deaths on Irish roads overnight

A man in his 30s has died following a car accident in Mayo yesterday evening.
The man, who was the driver and sole occupant of the car, was seriously injured when his car hit a fence on the N5 near Castlebar.
He was removed to Mayo General Hospital but died yesterday.
The accident occurred on the N5 in the townland of Knockanour, Castlebar, Co Mayo.
The road at the scene was closed to facilitate a technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and local diversions are in place.

Meanwhile, a male pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by a car early this morning.
Gardaí are investigating the fatal accident which occurred on the N2 between Ashbourne and Slane at Tuiterath, Balrath County Meath at around 1.30am.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at scene and his body has been removed to Navan Mortuary.
A post mortem is to be arranged.
The N2 is currently closed between Curtis' Cross and Rathdrinagh Cross to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.
