The man in his 20s was in custody at Castlerea Prison in connection with an unrelated matter.

The woman in her 20s was also detained by gardaí over a separate issue.

Gardaí did not issue any statement on the matter.

Mr Kivlehan's body was found at his apartment at Holborn Court in Sligo town on Monday afternoon.

Gardaí said he had been stabbed a number of times.

The popular banjo player and retired carpenter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Forensic experts have spent two days at the scene of the murder.

Mr Kivlehan's remains were released to his family yesterday. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced today.

The murder has sent shockwaves through the Sligo community.

Dozens of floral tributes have been left outside the apartment where Mr Kivlehan died.

One hand-written tribute at the scene yesterday read: "Keep playing the banjo up there, Matt. We miss you."

While the murder investigation continued, a large crowd gathered close to Sligo Garda Station for most of the day, with friends of the dead man hoping to hear news about the probe.
