Two people were killed in separate road-traffic accidents yesterday. A 20-year-old man was killed in the early hours following a single-vehicle crash in Co Roscommon.

The victim was a passenger in a car which struck a ditch on the N4 Dublin-Sligo road at Arcarn, near Boyle, just after midnight.

He was rushed by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Gardaí say the 31-year-old male driver and a second male passenger, aged 37, were taken to the same hospital.

Meanwhile, a minibus driver (52) died when the vehicle he was driving hit a ditch.

Four other people were injured in the accident, which happened on the N86 between Ballintaggart and Dingle in Co Kerry at 3.20pm.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Tralee garda station on 066 710 2300.
