Gardai at Pearse St station are investigating the incident which occured in Oil Can Harry's on Lower Mount Street at approximately 10pm.

Two men entered the popular bar and one of the individuals fired a number of shots at a group of people playing pool.

Two men - aged 19 and 20 - suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to St Vincent's Hospital for treatment.

It is understood that their wounds are serious but not life-threatening at this time.

The two assailants are believed to have made their getaway in a dark-coloured car.

The vehicle drove away from the pub in the direction of Dublin 4.

Gardai are investigating several lines of enquiry in relation to the shooting incident.
