In separate incidents, two horses were left with wounds to their body after they were attacked with what is believed to be an axe or a weapon of a similar nature.

The first attack occurred on Saturday Morning July 16 when a horse was left with shocking injuries following an attack which left a gaping hole on its back.

A couple of days later gardai said another horse was attacked in a similar way in the same area.

Both incidents occurred at farmland in Ashford, Co Wicklow.

Gardai believe the attacks could be related, given they are of a similar nature.

The investigation is ongoing  and anyone with information to the horrific attacks is asked to contact Gardai in Ashford on (0404) 49220.
