Two elderly men beaten in driveway as man (25) steals car in broad daylight

Two men in their 70s were beaten in the driveway of a Dublin house in broad daylight by a young man who stole one of their cars after demanding the keys to it.

The incident happened in Clontarf shortly after noon yesterday.

One man had just come out of his house when he was set upon and had his keys taken.

A passer-by came to the man's aid but was also assaulted in the shocking attack on the Malahide Road.

The suspect left the scene in the injured man's car.

Both men were treated at scene by Dublin Fire Brigade, and the passer-by who was assaulted was taken to the Mater hospital for further treatment but has since been discharged.

Gardai from Clontarf and Ballymun, assisted by members of the Emergency Response Unit, later searched a house at Dolmen Court in Ballymun and a 25-year-old man was arrested.

He was detained at Clontarf Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The stolen car was also located in Ballymun.
