TV sales double for tournament
THE number of televisions being sold has doubled in many electronic stores compared to this time last year, as fans gear up for the World Cup kick-off today.
Harvey Norman, Currys and PC World have seen sales of 50-inch TVs and larger models double in the past month. Currys reported a 200pc increase in the sales of Ultra HD TVs.
Category manager for large-screen TVs at Currys and PC World John Mitchell said: "With the football approaching, more and more people are keen to watch the tournament on the best products around."
The pick-up in revenue has been welcomed by retailers after a drop-off in figures following last years' digital switchover.
