One of Ireland's best-known business people has died.
Des Kelly, who ran the self-titled furniture store, passed away 'peacefully' at home in Co Meath, according to a funeral notice posted online.
He started selling second hand carpets in the 1960's and went on to build a home furnishings company that has become a household name throughout the country.
Mr Kelly died peacefully at home yesterday. His wife Youlanda died a number of years ago and he is survived by eight children.
His funeral is due to take place on Monday.
League of Ireland side Bohemians FC paid tribute to the businessman in a message posted online.
The club wrote: "It is with great sadness that Bohemians today learned of the passing of long-time friend, supporter and sponsor Des Kelly.
"Des, owner of Des Kelly Interiors, had an extremely close relationship with the club for many years and gave us incredible backing as main sponsor for nearly a decade.
"Everyone at Bohs would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Des’ family."
When Bohs had nothing we could always depend on Des Kelly, when we had plenty we could still depend on Des Kelly RIP pic.twitter.com/Dek1TuTDI8— Michael O Loughlin (@Mikey959) July 21, 2016
