Tributes paid to elderly woman killed in fire at her home

Tributes have been paid to the elderly woman who died in a house fire in Co Kerry.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at the house on the Dingle Peninsula at around 9pm last night.

Two units from Dingle Fire Brigade arrived at the premises near Ballyferriter.

Tralee Fire Brigade also assisted in the operation.

The woman, who has been named as Bridie Uí Chíobháin was 85-years-old.

Locals said she was a “wonderful lady”.

“She was a woman of great faith and she was greatly loved,” they added

Her remains were taken to Kerry General Hospital and a post-mortem examination is being arranged.

The farmhouse has been preserved by gardaí but it is understood that they are not treating the blaze as suspicious at this time.
