The freak accident occurred in the parish of Causeway, Co Kerry, on Sunday night.

Dan O'Connor (64) died after he became trapped while climbing through a window at the front of his home late on Sunday night. Mr O'Connor had mislaid his keys and was attempting to gain entry to his unoccupied home at the time, The Kerryman reported this week.

His body was discovered by his brother-in-law Dan Lynch while he was walking greyhounds by the home early on Monday morning.

Shock gripped the parish of Causeway and Ballyduff where the father of four was described as an extremely popular member of the community. Wife Kathleen, daughters Elaine, Karina and Geraldine and son Daniel are being comforted by hundreds this week ahead of Mr O'Connor's Funeral Mass at 11am on Thursday morning at St Peter and Paul's Church in Ballyduff.

"We still don't know exactly what caused his death," Mr Lynch told The Kerryman.

"Dan was extremely popular, a great family man whose main interest was Gaelic Football from his days with Ballyconry Football Club as a young man," he added.

Fr Brendan Walsh said the Parish was still coming to terms with his tragic loss.
