The incident occurred on the Naas Road outbound from Dublin shortly after 5pm.

It is understood that the truck was carrying sand.

Gardai responded to the scene between the Red Cow Interchange and the Newlands Cross flyover.

Motorists have been warned to expect delays on approach while the road is being cleared.

Traffic is expected to be very busy on all routes and around major towns nationwide as people make their way home for Christmas.

With two weather warnings also in place, AA Roadwatch are advising all road users to exercise caution and be extra patient on the roads.

Meanwhile, for city revellers tonight, Dublin Bus will be operating a full Nitelink service tonight. Full timetable can be viewed on their website.
