Gardaí have arrested three teenagers after a burglary and subsequent high-speed chase.

In the early hours of Friday morning gardaí were alerted to a burglary at a bar in Cavan town.

A quantity of cash and a vehicle were taken during the raid.

At approximately 6am a car failed to stop for gardaí at a routine checkpoint. The vehicle was followed by Gardaí to Stradone village where it crashed into a ditch. The occupants of the car fled the scene on foot. During a follow up search three men aged in their late teens were arrested a short time later.

There were no reported injuries.

All three are being held under section four of the criminal justice act and are being held at Cavan Garda station.

Gardaí discovered that the car they were travelling in had been stolen in the earlier burglary and recovered a sum of cash.

A forensic examination was carried out on the car and at the scene. The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
