Three men arrested following armed robbery of post office
Three men have been arrested following an armed robbery of a Post office in Clogherhead, Co. Louth today.
The incident occurred at around 11.45am when three men entered the Post office. One of the men was armed with a sawn-off shotgun.
They threatened staff and demanded money, gardai said.
As the men left the Post Office with a sum of money they were confronted by Gardai and a struggle ensued.
A male (25) was arrested by Gardai attached to the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.
A sawn-off shoutgun and the proceeds of the robbery were also recovered.
Two further men (24 and 36) were arrested with the assistance of local Gardai and the Regional Support Unit.
The three men are currently being detained at Dundalk and Drogheda Garda stations under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.
As part of an ongoing operation of proactive patrolling to combat armed robberies by the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, three males have been arrested.
