An Irishman who went missing while hiking in the US six months again has been reportedly spotted by a couple, who claim he is using the name 'Leprechaun.'

David O'Sullivan, who is originally from Cork, was hiking along the Pacific Coast Trail, which runs from the Mexican border to Canada.

He last contacted his family on April 7, he was due to meet a friend in Santa Barbara, California in May but never showed up.

Now a couple have come forward to claim they meet David (25) on August 20.

The Missing Person - David O'Sullivan - PCT Hiker Facebook page said in a statement: "Andrew Zech has been in touch claiming that he and his girlfriend Michelle met David travelling from Packwood to the trail head that leads to Leech Lake on or about Aug 20th.

"They got a spin with him. They claim that David's trail name is Leprechaun.

"Can anyone remember meeting David or someone with the trail name 'leprechaun' around then or since?

"Any information would be much appreciated."

Investigating detectives have previously said that David was not an experienced hiker.

Speaking on Morning Ireland on RTE Radio One, Detective Sean Lawlor said: "The only hint that we’ve got is from Niall (David's brother) essentially saying that David is not a professional hiker, they consider him a novice.

"So he had told them prior to leaving he was intent on avoiding deep snow and ice at all costs.

"Based on the conditions at the time he may have went off the trail and skirted around it...

"They said David left Ireland on March 20 to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from southern California to Canada.

"He had hiking gear, a non-smart phone, and tablet. He had no international plan, so he was relying on local Wi-Fi spots to contact his family."
