Teenager who was about to sit Leaving Cert dies after house party

An investigation has been launched after a 17-year-old boy died following a house party over the weekend.

The youth had attended a party in the Claremont Estate in Navan, Co Meath on Sunday night before returning to a family member's home that night.

He was discovered unconscious in the house shortly after 8am on Monday and brought by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth where he died a short time later.

Gardaí are investigating the death but a senior source confirmed that it is not being treated as suspicious.

The youth was due to sit his Leaving Certificate tomorrow.

A full post-mortem examination has been carried out and investigators are awaiting the results of toxicology tests.

Tributes have been paid to the teenager online this afternoon.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are invcestigating the death of a 17-year-old who was found at a house on Slane Road on Monday morning.

"He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda where he subsequently passed away.

"A file is now being prepared under the Coroner's Act."
