Teenager killed and three hospitalised in late-night road crash

A young man has died and three other teens were injured when a car spun out of control and collided with a wall on the Cork-Limerick border.
A 19 year old suffered fatal injuries and pronounced dead before he could be transferred to hospital in the collision at Smith’s Road, Charleville, Co Cork.
The accident occurred shortly after 11pm on Wednesday evening.
No other vehicle was involved.
It is believed the 19 year old driver of the car lost control and it spun into a stone wall.
Three passengers in the car, all in their late teens, were also injured.
They included two young women and a young man.
They were transferred to University Hospital Limerick (UHL). It is understood they suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
All those involved are believed to be from the Charleville area
Councillor Ian Doyle, who is from the area and knows the family well, said: "My deepest sympathies go out to the young man's parents and the whole extended family after thsi tragedy."
The accident scene was immediately sealed off to allow for a full examination by Garda technical experts.
Local diversions are in place and Gardai have urged people to avoid the area if possible.
Gardai have also appealed for witnesses to the collision to contact them.
The investigation is being led by Mallow Gardai on (022) 31450.
Cork County Coroner has been notified of the incident and a file will be prepared for a forthcoming inquest.
This latest death brings to nine the number of people who have died on Irish roads in the last five days. The total road death toll this year so far is 158.
Shortly before 7pm on Saturday a motorcyclist, in his early 20s, was killed after two bikers collided on Hartstown Road in Blanchardstown.
On Saturday night Lee Henry (13) from Darndale was killed while crossing a road in Clonshaugh, North Dublin.
On Monday, Mark Bell (46) from Ballybrack in south Dublin – who was described as a “lovely fellow” – was killed when he was hit by a van after falling from his motorbike on the York Road in Dun Laoghaire.
He was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
A 50-year-old man died after the car he was driving collided with a truck in Paulstown, Co Kilkenny.
On Sunday a motorcyclist died after a collision at Ballinaclough, Pallasgreen, Co. Limerick at 3.30pm.
The man, who was in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Jane Dardis (20), from Skerries, died in a collision that left her two friends injured on her way home from work on Monday night.
A woman in her 80s died on Tuesday after the car she was driving veered off the road and hit a wall.
On Wednesday a pedestrian died after he was struck by a truck on Wednesday afternoon on Meath Street in Dublin's city centre.
