Teenager (14) dies in farm tragedy that leaves his brother in hospital

ONE of the two teenage brothers seriously injured in a farming accident earlier today has died this evening.

It is understood that the young man was 14-years-old and was due to return to secondary school tomorrow.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) have confirmed they are investigating the farm accident which took place at around 10.30am this morning.

It is understood the two boys were on a trailer that was completing farm work when the accident occurred close to Ballon, Co Carlow.

It is unclear what happened, but there are reports that the trailer went into a dike - or small stream - and overturned.

The two brothers were being treated at St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny - and gardai have confirmed that one has passed away.

The other young man is said to be in a serious but stable condition.
