TWO girls in their late teens have alleged that they were subjected to serious sexual assaults on a moving bus that was being used as transport for a concert by US singer Jason Derulo.

The victims, aged 18 and 19, told gardai they were driven around Cork city in the bus at the time of the alleged incident. One alleged she was raped while the other said she was sexually assaulted.

Gardai later arrested two US citizens, aged in their 30s and 40s, in the Grand Parade area of the city at around 4am yesterday.

The two men were taken to the Bridewell garda station for questioning under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

They were later released without charge and a file is to be sent to the DPP.

The two suspects had been in Cork city for a couple of days. The girls are understood to be from Co Cork. Earlier in the night, they had attended the Live at the Marquee concert by Jason Derulo in an area known as the Marina, in the suburb of Blackrock.

After the concert, the teenagers visited the Savoy nightclub, then met a group of men who had also been at the concert and ended up in a bus.

The girls told investigating gardai that the incidents took place while the bus was being driven around the city.

Officers were not immediately clear where the alleged attacks occurred but were satisfied the bus was still in the city at the time. The bus has been seized by gardai for a detailed forensic examination.

The two girls were taken to the sexual assault unit at the South Infirmary Victoria University hospital for medical treatment.

Jason Derulo (24), whose real name is Jason Joel Desrouleaux, is a Miami-born singer, songwriter and dancer. It is known that Mr Derulo was not on board the bus.
