A MAJOR conference is being held tomorrow to help draft a blueprint for setting up an independent garda authority.
Eighty people have been invited to attend by Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald, who intends to use the conference as a key part of the consultative process leading up to the legislation creating the authority.
Ms Fitzgerald and Acting Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan will address the half-day conference, which is being held at Farmleigh in Dublin.
Participants will then take part in discussions and split up for workshops to debate the functions of the new authority and its role in appointing senior garda members.
