Swimmer rescued from the sea after getting into difficulty today

A man swimming at Ballycotton in Cork was rescued on Tuesday by the local coastguard after getting into difficulty.

At approximately 2:15pm on Tuesday afternoon a member of the public reported the issue to the Ballycotton coastguard.

A rescue was initiated with the lifeboat arriving at approximately 2:35pm.

The man was safely recovered by approximately 2:40pm and was said to be in a “poor medical condition”.

He was then airlifted to Cork University Hospital.

Speaking to Independent.ie a spokesperson from Valentia Marine Rescue Sub Centre said he could not confirm the extent of the poor health of the rescued man.
