Supermarket giant tight-lipped over cover-up of rival's logo on jersey in billboard ad
Supermarket giant Lidl has defended the covering up of the sponsorship logo on a Cork player's jersey in their giant billboard ad ahead of the ladies All-Ireland football final.
With the Dublin team - known as the Jackies - due to face Cork on September 25, it is rivalry of a different kind that may have dictated the set-up of the ads which urge people to support the teams.
The billboard in Ballybough, near Croke Park, shows Cork's Briege Corkery with her arms folded over the Supervalu logo on her shirt.
Sinead Goldrick, Dublin's captain, is also pictured in the ad, but the AIG logo on her jersey is clearly visible.
Last night, Lidl would not say whether they deliberately left out the Cork team's sponsors. "As with any team sponsorship promotional photography, one of the standard set-ups is players standing in three lines where it is not possible to show all individual team sponsors' logos," a Lidl spokesperson said.
