Irish Navy chief petty officer Phil O'Connell is greeted by his daughter Allie after the arrival of the LE Samuel Beckett in Cork for its twinning ceremony with the city today.
The offshore patrol vessel is one of two ordered in 2010 and was built by British shipbuilding company Babcock Marine.
The ship cost €54m to build while a second, the LE James Joyce, is under construction and is due for delivery next year.
A public viewing of the vessel takes place between 3pm and 5pm this afternoon at Kennedy Quay while the twinning ceremony will be held at City Hall at 4pm.
