Soccer legend Roy Keane is reportedly set to front a new ad campaign for the Credit Union, according to reports.

Rumours of the new deal began to circulate when the Corkman and a film crew arrived at a branch on Dublin’s Malahide Road, according to The Irish Sun.

Locals who had gathered outside the Donnycarney office reported that the former Manchester United player arrived around midday to shoot the ad in-store.

As the new face of the nationwide local lenders, Keane would follow in the footsteps of Dublin singer Imelda May and fellow sportsman Brian O’Driscoll.

The Irish League of Credit Unions have declined to confirm or deny that Keane will spearhead the new promotion.

It is understood that negotiations ahead of the September ad launch are still ongoing.

Most of the 387 credit unions nationwide are represented by the Irish League of Credit Unions.

The group has previously complained that strict lending criteria for customers were forcing borrowers to turn to money lenders.

Itis hoped that the new campaign - with a familiar trusted face such as Keano's - will incentivise consumers to return to their local Credit Union for lending facilities.
