A teenager who was left stranded on an island when he was cut off due to rising tide, is recovering after he was rescued yesterday evening.
The 19-year-old man was rescued from an island off Silver Strand in Galway after a kayaker spotted him in distress at around 7.45pm yesterday.
He alerted emergency services and the Galway RNLI Lifeboat was launched from Galway Docks at 8pm, arriving at the island within minutes.
Two members of the lifeboat crew tended to the teen on the island. He was then taken to the Galway Docks with the assistance of the gardai and members of the Irish Coastguard.
The young man was transferred on the RNLI lifeboat and examined by a lifeboat crew member at the lifeboat station.
From there he was taken to University Hospital Galway for treatment .
